Sunette graduated as an Occupational Therapist from the University of the Orange Free State in South Africa as the valedictorian of her class. In the United States, she worked in the rehabilitation field for over 10 years, with her focus being brain injury and stroke victims. She fulfilled her role as Brain injury team leader and later as OT team leader for the Inpatient rehabilitation facility. Sunette’s life changed dramatically when she learned that her son would be born with a congenital heart defect. She stopped working full time as an OT and focused her full effort on helping her son develop and learn, and started her journey as a homeschooling mom. Since her son needed help she persistently searched for the best possible way to address his needs, and after many hours of research chose the National Association for Child Development to help guide her in helping and homeschooling her son. Sunette now works with the NACD, while homeschooling their 2 children and delights in helping other children reach towards their unique potentials using NACDs neuro-developmental perspective.
