When I decided to homeschool, I remember diving into book after book. Here are some great books for the new homeschooler. These are books that I have read again and again. If you are a new homeschooler, don’t miss this list!
When you first begin homeschooling you have SO many questions. I remember diving into book after book trying to garner as much information as I could. I wanted to know everything, and my bookshelf and Amazon account proved it.
However, not all of the books I read were great. Some, I got rid of right away, some I passed on, and some I have kept and read year after year. Here are some great books for new homeschoolers!
For the Children’s Sake, Foundations of Education for Home and School
This book is Charlotte Mason based, but regardless of which educational method you use you will gain wisdom from this book. The advice is gentle and encouraging and will benefit your homeschool greatly.
Rebecca Rupp, Home Learning Year by Year
This book helps you develop a homeschool curriculum subject by subject. The book breaks down what students need to learn each year and then offers practical resources to help make the learning happen. Most of the resources can be found at the library for free.
Lies Homeschool Moms Believe by Todd Wilson
I read this book a couple of years into my homeschool journey but still found it so encouraging. I literally laughed at numerous places in this book and spent time texting homeschool friends while reading it.
Called Home by Karen DeBeus
This book is full of encouragement from start to finish. It walks you through doubts you may have, and how to overcome them. It encourages mom that if God has called you too homeschooling He will help you through it.
Cathy Duffy’s Top Homeschool Picks
Cathy Duffy is a well-known author who writes amazing reviews for homeschool curriculum. However, she also helps new homeschoolers find their teaching style, as well as their child’s learning style. She then breaks down which curriculum would work for your family based on how you teach, and your child learns.
Teaching from Rest
Even if you are new to homeschooling, this book is a must-have for any homeschool mom. Although homeschooling is a great joy and privilege, it also a challenging undertaking that stretches and grows us. This guide offers hope, encouragement, and sanity to prayerfully strengthen your soul for this God-given journey.

Written as if you were sitting right across from her for coffee this book shares the story of 15 REAL homeschool families who are making homeschooling work. It is SO encouraging to read others struggles and triumphs.
