Awesome Homeschool Field Trip Ideas

These homeschool field trip ideas are universal, meaning that regardless of where you live you should be able to utilize them in some way.

I don’t know about your kids, but mine LOVE field trips!   Our homeschool group has taken a variety of different field trips through the years. However, there are some that have been on the top of the list consistently each year. These homeschool field trip ideas are universal, meaning that regardless of where you live you should be able to utilize them in some way.

1. State Parks:  We visit our local state park every year at least once. You should have a naturalist in your local state park. Ours is trained to work with kids and does a fantastic job. She has taken our kids on hikes, taught them how to make rock paint, completed crafts with them, and educated them on recycling and much more. We have also given back to our state park by participating in the yearly park clean up.
2. Pizza Places
   Our group has visited two different Pizza places for field trips. They typically let the kids make their own pizzas, or at least put the topping on, tour the restaurant, and of course, eat!
3.  Local Fire Department
   Fire safety month is October, your local fire department should be more than willing to teach your homeschool kids about fire safety!  There are tons of opportunities for learning. We explored fire trucks, sprayed the hose, and toured the ambulance and fire station. Our fire department also gave our kids free coloring books and fire hats.
4. Museums
   Does your area have a museum? Many areas do. We have two, the nearest one is a typical museum with art, and lot’s of “older” stuff. Another one within an hour from us offers a play area, many hands-on activities, and workshops for school kids. We do this trip about every year. The kids love it!
5. Local Farms
   Depending on where you live you may have a local farm willing to give your group a tour. We have been to two. One was a pumpkin patch where the kids took a tractor ride and picked out pumpkins. The other is a local apple orchard. We were able to see how the apples are picked, washed, and bagged for distribution. We also were able to go through a hay maze and corn maze at these farms. Check with your local farms and see if they offer tours for education groups.

I encourage you to check out your local area and find homeschool field trip ideas. There are probably many places where you can take your kiddos. The area we live in is fairly small, but I just began picking up the phone and calling local businesses. I was surprised to find out how accommodating businesses are for homeschoolers. You may be too:).
